햇살이 고마와진다

겨울을 보내곤 할 때마다 예전엔 당연하게 생각하던 것들에 대한 고마움이 든다.

요즘엔 그 중 단연 햇살에 대한 고마움이 가장 크다.

사람이 이렇게 단순하다. 당장 나에게 아쉬운 점이 생기고서야 비로소 그것의 빈 자리가 마음에 들어온다.

집에서 허연 입김이 나오도록 손끝을 불어가며 차 한잔 마시노라면, 한 낮의 햇살이, 차를 끓일 수 있는 불이, 누군가 정성스레 말렸을 그 찻잎이 모두 고맙다.

자연 앞에서 사람은 보잘 것 없기 마련이고, 우리 사는 건 결국 이렇게 소박한 행복에 의해 픙요로와지는 것이었음 싶다.

1. Gartner Identifies the Top 10 Consumer Mobile Applications for 2012
STAMFORD, Conn., November 18, 2009 — Gartner, Inc. has identified the top 10 consumer mobile applications for 2012. Gartner listed applications based on their impact on consumers and industry players, considering revenue, loyalty, business model, consumer value and estimated market penetration.

“Consumer mobile applications and services are no longer the prerogative of mobile carriers,” said Sandy Shen, research director at Gartner. “The increasing consumer interest in smartphones, the participation of Internet players in the mobile space, and the emergence of application stores and cross-industry services are reducing the dominance of mobile carriers. Each player will influence how the application is delivered and experienced by consumers, who ultimately vote with their attention and spending power.”

“The ultimate competition between industry players is for control of the ‘ecosystem’ and user experience, and the owner of the ecosystem will benefit the most in terms of revenue and user loyalty,” Ms. Shen said. “We predict that most users will use no more than five mobile applications at a time and most future opportunities will come from niche market ‘killer applications’.”

The top 10 consumer mobile applications in 2012 will include:



No. 1: Money Transfer
This service allows people to send money to others using Short Message Service (SMS). Its lower costs, faster speed and convenience compared with traditional transfer services have strong appeal to users in developing markets, and most services signed up several million users within their first year. However, challenges do exist in both regulatory and operational risks. Because of the fast growth of mobile money transfer, regulators in many markets are piling in to investigate the impact on consumer costs, security, fraud and money laundering. On the operational side, market conditions vary, as do the local resources of service providers, so providers need different market strategies when entering a new territory.

No. 2: Location-Based Services
Location-based services (LBS) form part of context-aware services, a service that Gartner expects will be one of the most disruptive in the next few years. Gartner predicts that the LBS user base will grow globally from 96 million in 2009 to more than 526 million in 2012. LBS is ranked No. 2 in Gartner’s top 10 because of its perceived high user value and its influence on user loyalty. Its high user value is the result of its ability to meet a range of needs, ranging from productivity and goal fulfillment to social networking and entertainment.

No. 3: Mobile Search
The ultimate purpose of mobile search is to drive sales and marketing opportunities on the mobile phone. To achieve this, the industry first needs to improve the user experience of mobile search so that people will come back again. Mobile search is ranked No. 3 because of its high impact on technology innovation and industry revenue. Consumers will stay loyal to some search services, but instead of sticking to one or two search providers on the Internet, Gartner expects loyalty on the mobile phone to be shared between a few search providers that have unique technologies for mobile search.

No. 4: Mobile Browsing
Mobile browsing is a widely available technology present on more than 60 percent of handsets shipped in 2009, a percentage Gartner expects to rise to approximately 80 percent in 2013. Gartner has ranked mobile browsing No. 4 because of its broad appeal to all businesses. Mobile Web systems have the potential to offer a good return on investment. They involve much lower development costs than native code, reuse many existing skills and tools, and can be agile — both delivered and updated quickly. Therefore, the mobile Web will be a key part of most corporate business-to-consumer (B2C) mobile strategies.

No. 5: Mobile Health Monitoring
Mobile health monitoring is the use of IT and mobile telecommunications to monitor patients remotely, and could help governments, care delivery organizations (CDOs) and healthcare payers reduce costs related to chronic diseases and improve the quality of life of their patients. In developing markets, the mobility aspect is key as mobile network coverage is superior to fixed network in the majority of developing countries. Currently, mobile health monitoring is at an early stage of market maturity and implementation, and project rollouts have so far been limited to pilot projects. In the future, the industry will be able to monetize the service by offering mobile healthcare monitoring products, services and solutions to CDOs.

No. 6: Mobile Payment
Mobile payment usually serves three purposes. First, it is a way of making payment when few alternatives are available. Second, it is an extension of online payment for easy access and convenience. Third, it is an additional factor of authentication for enhanced security. Mobile payment made Gartner’s top 10 list because of the number of parties it affects — including mobile carriers, banks, merchants, device vendors, regulators and consumers — and the rising interest from both developing and developed markets. Because of the many choices of technologies and business models, as well as regulatory requirements and local conditions, mobile payment will be a highly fragmented market. There will not be standard practices of deployment, so parties will need to find a working solution on a case-by-case basis.



No. 7: Near Field Communication Services
Near field communication (NFC) allows contactless data transfer between compatible devices by placing them close to each other, within ten centimeters. The technology can be used, for example, for retail purchases, transportation, personal identification and loyalty cards. NFC is ranked No. 7 in Gartner’s top ten because it can increase user loyalty for all service providers, and it will have a big impact on carriers' business models. However, its biggest challenge is reaching business agreement between mobile carriers and service providers, such as banks and transportation companies. Gartner expects to see large-scale deployments starting from late 2010, when NFC phones are likely to ship in volume, with Asia leading deployments followed by Europe and North America.



No. 8: Mobile Advertising
Mobile advertising in all regions is continuing to grow through the economic downturn, driven by interest from advertisers in this new opportunity and by the increased use of smartphones and the wireless Internet. Total spending on mobile advertising in 2008 was $530.2 million, which Gartner expects to will grow to $7.5 billion in 2012. Mobile advertising makes the top 10 list because it will be an important way to monetize content on the mobile Internet, offering free applications and services to end users. The mobile channel will be used as part of larger advertising campaigns in various media, including TV, radio, print and outdoors.

No. 9: Mobile Instant Messaging
Price and usability problems have historically held back adoption of mobile instant messaging (IM), while commercial barriers and uncertain business models have precluded widespread carrier deployment and promotion. Mobile IM is on Gartner’s top 10 list because of latent user demand and market conditions that are conducive to its future adoption. It has a particular appeal to users in developing markets that may rely on mobile phones as their only connectivity device. Mobile IM presents an opportunity for mobile advertising and social networking, which have been built into some of the more advanced mobile IM clients.

No. 10: Mobile Music
Mobile music so far has been disappointing — except for ring tones and ring-back tones, which have turned into a multibillion-dollar service. On the other hand, it is unfair to dismiss the value of mobile music, as consumers want music on their phones and to carry it around. We see efforts by various players in coming up with innovative models, such as device or service bundles, to address pricing and usability issues. iTunes makes people pay for music, which shows that a superior user experience does make a difference.

Sydney, Australia, November 17, 2009 — 
Enterprises can leverage context-aware computing to better target prospects, increase customer intimacy, and enhance associate productivity and collaboration, according to Gartner, Inc. as organisations begin to use context information to increase top- and bottom-line growth and context providers begin to consolidate and monetize their knowledge of their clients. By 2012, Gartner predicts that context information will be a $12 billion market with at least two global context providers with more than 100 million subscribers each.

Gartner defines context-aware computing as the concept of leveraging information about the end user to improve the quality of the interaction. Emerging context-enriched services will use location, presence, social attributes, and other environmental information to anticipate an end user's immediate needs, offering more-sophisticated, situation-aware and usable functions.

“Although the rudiments of context-aware computing have been around for some time now, it is a disruptive technology that has the potential to be a real ‘game changer’ in terms of competitive advantage,” said Anne Lapkin, research vice president at Gartner, who is in Sydney this week to present at the company’s annual Gartner Symposium/ITxpo event.

“Initial implementations of context-enriched services are already in play, and early adopters will find it easier to implement more-sophisticated services in the future. However, the real promise of context-aware computing will be realised when context information from multiple sources and multiple applications can be used simultaneously — and when trust and privacy issues are addressed.”

The promise of context-aware computing is such that many types of vendor are vying to be context providers and secure a piece of this growing market:

Web vendors are well positioned to become context providers, as they typically have large populations of users about whom they collect a significant amount of context information. They will be able to leverage some of their technology (i.e., instant messaging and social networking), but will need to extend their capabilities to be more context-aware. Gartner believes that any Web vendor that does not become a context provider risks handing over effective customer ownership to someone else — with a significant impact on their mobile and classic Web businesses.
Handset manufacturers have the opportunity to preinstall context data collection and presentation tools on their products. Nokia is exceptionally well placed to exploit the context opportunity because, although it is traditionally a handset manufacturer, it is making a strategic move as an emerging Web vendor with its OVI initiative. Other players that could move toward contextual services relatively easily are Apple and Research in Motion. Both have strong end-to-end control of their hardware and software as well as some experience in hosting server-side infrastructure.
Social networking vendors such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Mixit and Loopt have some, but not all, of the foundations of context. They have rich information about their users, but have weaker access to real-time contextual data, no location-based services of their own and no minimal application delivery mechanisms beyond the browser.
Mobile networks operators are weak in many key areas of context, but they have a substantial number of customers and significant information about them (i.e., calling patterns and subscriber data). They also have one major advantage denied to every other type of vendor they have discussed — they know the location of the handset (approximately) without having to install software on the handset at all. According to Gartner, the big challenge for network operators will be the need to interact cooperatively with a wide range of business partners — not a traditional strength of these organizations.
Communications infrastructure vendors such as Cisco and Alcatel Lucent are making significant investments in context —Cisco with its Mobility engine and Alcatel with its recent mobile advertising offering. Companies with rich presence engines, such as Microsoft and Avaya, can also be significant players. These vendors can provide analytics on user location and will be a key federation point between enterprises, carriers and individual context information.
For enterprises, the challenge will be not only to identify the right business opportunities to leverage context information, but also to choose the right partners and context providers.

“These are by no means trivial challenges, but those enterprises that begin to explore solutions now will be better positioned to exploit the ‘game changing’ potential as context information and context-enriched services become widely available and used,” said Ms. Lapkin.

Champix Side Effects – Dangers Of Popular Drug Used To Quit Smoking

As you might suspect, Champix users pay the piper with the risk of side effects. Common side effects listed on the drugs web site (under the US name Chantix) include nausea, constipation, gas, vomiting and changes in dreaming. (No specifics about what those 'changes' might be.) Since the launch of Champix, the side effect that's emerged as the most troubling is 'emotional disorder.' Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to healthcare professionals...

Champix, the drug that reduces a smoker's desire for cigarettes, was launched in the UK a few months back.

I first told you about Champix in the spring of 2006, just as Pfizer was preparing to launch the new drug in the US (where it is known as Chantix). At that time, all systems were go based on long-term studies that found the drug to be effective for about 20 percent of subjects, compared to only 16 percent of subjects who used Zyban, another smoking cessation drug.

Unlike nicotine-replacement drugs, Champix takes the opposite strategy, blocking nicotine from binding to certain brain receptors. This action keeps nicotine from prompting the release of dopamine in the brain's pleasure centers - derailing the craving for another cigarette, and another, and another...

Champix Side Effects

As you might suspect, Champix users pay the piper with the risk of side effects. Common side effects listed on the drugs web site (under the US name Chantix) include nausea, constipation, gas, vomiting and changes in dreaming. (No specifics about what those 'changes' might be.)

But that list just gets things started. Side effects listed as 'frequent,' include diarrhoea, gingivitis, chest pain, back pain, dizziness, anxiety, depression, emotional disorder, polyuria (excessive urination), menstrual disorder, and hypertension.

That's a pretty daunting list, considering the drug is only effective in the long term for about one in five users. But on the upside, a few Champix users may feel like they've hit the jackpot with an infrequent side effect described this way: 'Fewer than 1 out of 1,000 patients reported euphoria.'

For some smokers it might end up being easier to kick the cigarette habit than give up Champix-induced euphoria.

Champix Side Effects - Bad ideation

Since the launch of Champix, the side effect that's emerged as the most troubling is 'emotional disorder.'

Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to healthcare professionals, alerting them to 'reports of suicidal thoughts and aggressive and erratic behaviour in patients who have taken Chantix [Champix].' According to the warning, many of these cases will experience 'depressed mood, suicidal ideation, and changes in emotion and behaviour within days to weeks of initiating Chantix treatment.'



The warning also directs doctors to monitor patients taking the drug for behaviour and mood changes, and cautions patients to be careful when driving or using heavy machinery. And yet, in a three-page Champix advertisement that appears in an issue of a popular magazine published this month, the caution about driving and using machinery is noted, but there's no mention of behavioural changes, depression, or suicidal ideation.

Champix is sure to be a popular drug, so if you know any smokers who are thinking of taking it, fill them in on this disturbing side effect they might not be aware of.

Better yet, let them know there are safer techniques to help them put down their cigarettes and never look back.

일주일 여정치고는 정신없다고나 할 수 있지 않을런지.

예전에는 이 길을 어떻게들 다녔을지
그리스/로마 시대의 여행자들이 존경스럽기 그지 없는.

그나저나 페리가 그냥 한강에 떠 댕기는 페리가 아니라,
'사랑의 유람선'에서나 보던 풀장 달린 빌딩보다도 큰 배로구만.
배 안에 카지노, 면세점, 바, 식당이 모두 있고..로비는 호텔갈고.
이런 배도 유레일패스로 사용이 가능하다니 놀라울 따름.

산토리니는 아름답지만 다소 지루하고,
미코노스는 흐드러지는 밤문화가 즐거워

너무 너무 추운 날씨.
기온은 그리 낮지 않은데 바람은 정말 세고.
비와 눈이 번갈아 오락 가락.
온 밤하늘이 눈으로 가득할 때는 이것이 3월인지 12월지 모를 지경.
그나마 부다페스트는 온천이라도 있으니까 다행이네.
온천하러 가야지.

이제는 따듯한 날씨가 그립다.
지난 11월부터 모로코와 스페인갔을 때 빼고는
계속 겨울만 따라다니며 유럽을 돌고 있는 느낌.

완전 피곤

재미있지만 완전 피곤.
런던에 있을 때는 피곤하면 하루 파하고 그냥 뒹굴거리기도 했지만,
짧은 기간씩 여러 나라를 다니다보니 하루 뒹굴거리는 것이 아까와
맘 편하게 쉬기도 어려운 상황. 두 달 넘게 이러면 힘들텐데.
오늘은 비엔나에서의 마지막 날.
모든 이들이 말했듯, 비엔나를 보기에 최소 일주일은 필요한 듯.
내일까지 5일을 비엔나에서 머물지만,
아직도 못 본 것이 많네. 다시 올 수 있을까.
어쩌면 밀라노에서 2주 머무는 동안 다시 한 번 와볼 기회가 있을지도.

In Munich

오래간만의 새 글.

오래도록 이 곳 저 곳을 떠돌다보니
다소 길을 잃은 느낌이 들기도 하고.

지금은 뮌헨. 뮌센이라고 발음한다던데.
맥주의 고장에 와서 많은 맥주를 마시고 있는 중.

제네바 이후,
인터라켄, 다시 제네바, 취리히, 브뤼셀, 브뤼헤,
암스텔담, 베를린, 프라하, 그리고 여기 뮌헨.
이번 주말에 비엔나로 건너가려하는데,
재미있게도 이 곳에서 좀 더 있으라 만류하는 이가 생겨
조금 고민 중이기도. 결국 일정대로 움직일 것 같기는 하지만.

뮌헨에서는 숙소를 아파트로 얻어 취사도 가능하니
오래간만에 진짜 집에 있는 느낌이 듬.
그래봤자 일주일이지만, 여행이라기보단 생활의 느낌이 강하고.

어느덧 한국을 떠난지 넉달하고 일주일.
조금씩 지쳐가기도 하지만,
귀국일을 향해 달려가는 이 시간들이 아쉽기도 함.

Arrived in Geneva at 5:45 in the morning. Night train.. was the first experience but looks like it'd take some time to feel comfortable in it. Internet connection in the room is sort of pricy. It's quite amazing to see how badly I panic in internet-free environment just for hours(Now I am at the free internet terminal at the lobby. Lovely). Stay tuned for more report.

지금은 바르셀로나

바르셀로나의 느낌은 참 번잡스럽다.
큰 도시이기도 하고, 큰 국제 행사가 있기도 했고.
서울에서 출장나온 많은 사람들을 만나기도 했고,
모든 사람들이 행사에서는 돈과 사업 이야기를 하기도 했고.
간단에 털어넣은 많은 술들에 많은 리듬이 깨어지기도 했고.

예정보다 하루 빨리 제네바로 이동할 계획.
내일과 모레, 이틀 남은 시간 동안 바르셀로나를 좀 더 볼 계획인데.
좀 피곤하기도 하고, 늘어지기도 하고 그런 느낌.

저 위, 플리커에서 보이듯 가우디의 건물들은 압권이라서
아마 가우디 뮤지엄과 구엘 공원, 구 시가지까지만 보지 않을까 싶은.
어쩌면 피카소 뮤지엄도 볼 지 모르겠는데,
사실 피카소는 어느 유럽 도시에서나 하도 봐서..
아무리 바르셀로나가 원조라지만,
가장 잘 되어 있다는 파리의 피카소 뮤지엄을 봤으므로
잘 안 땡기는 것도 사실.

이번 행사 기간 중에 사람들과 저녁을 먹으라
그간 빠진 살들을 좀 다시 보충하기도 해서 묵직함.
오늘밤에 리포트 하나 정리해두고 내일과 모레는 홀가분하게 움직여야지.

십 몇년 만에 처음이라는 런던 대설

눈이 많이 오더니
버스도 안 다니고
지하철도 군데 군데 끊기고
기차고 안 다니고
비행기도 취소되었다.

기분좋게 여행떠나는 첫날에.

덕분에 포르투갈 일정은 완전 백지화.
마드리드로 바로 가지만,
환불 안 되는 리스본 숙소 비용
및 추가 숙박 비용이 쓰릴 따름.

그래도 하루 온종일 서서 씨름하다
결국 포기하고 런던 시내로 기차타고 들어오며 한 생각은.
이게 최악은 아니라는거.

핸드폰 연락도 되고, 친구도 있고,
돈도 있고.. 뭐 나름 안전한 케이스.
지금은 영희네 집에서 하루밤 신세지는 중.

두 번은 사양해도, 이 한 번은 경험이라치고
그냥 용서해주기로 했다. 이 폭설을.

이 큰 도시가 눈 한 번 왔다고 완전 마비되는건
암만 생각해도 이해하기 싫은 상황.
오늘 런던 회사들은 출근도 안 했다던데.
대중교통 마비되어서. 소위, 폭설대란.

하루종일 사람들과 다녔다.

정화 아저씨 전시 설치하며 좋았던 시간도,
귀여운 밴드아이들과의 설익은 대화도,
또 역시 귀여운 큐레이터 승민씨와 그녀의 신랑 패트릭도,
무엇보다 이 모든 중간에 있던 영희와도.

브릭레인 거리 그 어디에서.
올드스트리트 역에서.
토텐햄코트 역의 지하철 위에서.

모두 차례 차례 인사하고 헤어졌다.

숙소로 돌아와 물에 담궈둔 빨래를 빨아 널고
침대에 누우니 시간 남짓 선잠만 왔다 갔네.

다들 또 만나게 되겠지.

어긋난 생체 시계

최근 며칠 생체 시계가 어긋난 듯.
계속해서 자정 무렵에 눈을 뜨고는
새벽까지 눈을 붙일 수가 없다.

해가 뜨면 런던에서의 마지막 하루.

라스베가스 이후의 3주는
허망할 정도로 혼자만의 시간이었고,
얼마가 지나 본전 생각 날지라도
이 때라야 가능할만큼
충만한 감정에 어긋나도 보았고.

술도 담배도 없는 밤 시간이 먹먹하다.

KBS Insight Asia - Noodle Road

괜찮은 다큐멘터리 하나.
국수라는 음식의 기원이 어떻게 되고,
어떠한 과정을 통해서 전 세계로 퍼져나갔는지,
현재 각 지역 등지에서 국수는 어떻게 발달하고 있는지..
등에 대한 내용을 보여주는 KBS다큐멘터리.
현재 3화까지 방영된 듯.
역사와 음식이라는 흥미로운 두 축을 잘 짬뽕하여
보고 있노라면 출출해지는 속과는 상관없이
즐겁에 끝을 보고야 말게 되는.. 다큐멘터리.

요즘 한국 다큐멘터리들이 아주 훌륭하네요.
3화까지 HD화질로 보고 있자니
식욕이 하늘높은 줄 모르고 치솟으려는 중 -.-

짐 싸기

이제 런던에 머물날도 일주일이 채 안 남았다.
영수증 정리, 고지서 정리 등등.
앞으로 석달 가지고 다닐 최소한의 물건만 남기고
모두 트렁크에 채워서 한국으로 보낼 건데
운송료가 뭐 이리 비싼지.
다행히 한국문화원의 큐레이터 아가씨가
공식적으로 거래하는 운송업체를 소개해줬지만,
내일 전화해보기 전까진 얼마나 돈이 들지 모르겠고.

낮에는 계속 숙소에 머물며
호텔 예약, 이런 저런 정리..들에
저녁 즈음에는 한국문화원에서 이틀 후에 오픈할
최정화씨 전시 설치를 계속 도와주고 있는 중.

일단 만나서 몸도 움직이고 이야기도 하고
술도 한잔 하다보면 기운이 좀 들지만,
그렇지 않은 시간 동안은 너무 늘어져 있는게 아닌지.

런던에 나오기 전에는
뭐라 말하기 어려운 기대감이 있었지만,
지금은 다소 걱정스러운 마음이 드는 것도 사실.
좀 (마음이) 지치기도 했고,
마음만큼 모든 준비가 안 되기도 했고.
뭐, 그래도 출장 한 두번 다녀본 것도 아닌 공력(?)으로
다니다보면 어떻게든지 또 잘 즐기게 되지 않을까.

그래도 이 모든 것,
결국은 행복한 투정일거다.
즐겨야지.

손님 맞이

던디에서 런던으로 날아오는 냥 선배.
저번에 에딘버러 가서 만났으니 두 달만이고.

한인수퍼가서
소주 두어병에 불고기 거리, 두부랑 김치도 샀으니
한 저녁 술안주론 충분하지 않을까 싶고.
속 허하면 두부 송송 썰어 된장 끓여먹음 되고.

이런 거구나, 손님 맞는 느낌이.

비오는 런던 새벽

담배 한 대 필까.. 싶어
새벽시간 숙소 밖으로 나갔더니 비가 내린다.
사실 저녁 부터 계속 내리고 있던 비.
오래간만에 모자를 벗고 비를 좀 맞았고.
그렇게 예전 생각도 했고.

한국은 구정지내러 바삐 움직이는 모양.
문득 나도 벌써 서른여섯이구나.
해바뀌는 것만 알았지, 나이 한 살 더 먹는 것은 몰랐으니
지나는 시간에 대한 예의가 참으로 아니로고.

서른여섯 해 동안 난 뭘 했나.. 생각해보니,
저만치 앞서 달려가는 내 마음을 가만히 볼 수 있게 된 듯.
아직도 오춘기, 육춘기 내 앞에 많이 남았겠지만,

숨표 하나 찍는 법,
가까스로 서른여섯 해만에 배웠소.

이리 말할 수 있으면 것도 좋은 것 아니겠나 싶다.

베어버리기에는 너무 늦은

인왕산 언저리의 어느 전셋집 마당에는
베어버리기에는 너무 늦은 복숭아 나무 한 그루가 있었다 한다.

베어야지 베어야지.. 마음만 먹고 있다가
어느 봄날 무심히 만개한 그 복숭아 나무의 꽃들을 바라보곤,
이제 베어버리기에는 너무 늦었다는 것을 깨달은 그들.

그 어느 봄날의 만개한 복숭아 나무처럼,
차고 넘쳐 흐르는 나의 마음도
베어버리기에는 이미 너무 늦었다.

결리는 어깨죽지

어제는 온 종일 최정화씨 전시 설치 도와드리느라
사다리 오르내리며 벽과 의자들에 은색 시트지 두 롤 붙이고,
작품 박스 운반하고, 작품들 꺼내서 배치하고.., 쓰레기 치우고.

안 쓰던 근육들을 모처럼 썼더니
오늘 아침은 어깨가 결리고 있는 중.

평소에, 그것도 운동이라고, 걷는 걸 좋아해서
'이 정도 쯤이야' 생각했었는데
하루 짐 좀 날랐다고 이리도 쑤시다니. 저질체력.

노가다하는 것도 익숙해져 가면서
시트지 붙여놓곤 혼자 감탄하고.

어제 노가다 인력들의 시급이 낮지 않은 것을 감안해보면
꽤 비싼 설치인 듯 싶지만 ㅎ
런던에서 무려 소주를 얻어먹었으니 일당은 제하고도 남겠다.

1월29일 전시 오프닝.
주영 한국문화원 대사관(트라팔가 광장 옆).
1월30일부터 일반 오픈.
번갯불이 번쩍 (Shine a light).

3월까지 전시하니 이 기간 중 런던오시는 분들은
한 번씩 들러보시길.

노래들

예전의 게움들을 하나 하나 백업받아 들어보니
이것참 듣기 거북살스런게 많은데,
그걸 전부 웹에 올렸었으니,
당시 홈피 찾아줬던 사람들에게 미안.
뭐, 이제와서 사과할 방법은 없지만.

그 중, 그냥 저냥 소리 좀 덜 질렀거나
삑사리 덜 난 거 몇 개.

슬리퍼를 가져가버렸다

숙소 리셉션에 방청소를 부탁하곤
두어시간 먹거리 사냥을 다녀오니,
그들이 나의 더러운 슬리퍼를 가져가버렸다.

맨발은 부담스러워
Muji에서 9파운드인가 주고 샀던
(그래도 나름 폭신했던) 살구색 슬리퍼.

두어달 신고나니 꼬리한 냄새도 배이고
바닥은 온갖 것을 쓸고 다녀 흑빛으로 바뀌었지만,
그래도 익숙했는데.

그들 눈엔 쓰레기로 보였나보다.

다시 달라고 하기도 민망해서
낯설게 맨발꼬락만 꼼질거리며 앉아 있는데,

영 어색하네. 발도 시리고.

부서지는 이

복 중에서도 치아 건강이 가장 큰 복이라는데,
살면서 이 때문에 은근히 신경쓰게 된다.

어릴 적에는 남몰래 컴플렉스도 있었고,
돈 벌어서는 인조인간이라 불릴만큼 치료도 했는데,

런던 나오기 전부터 불안하던 어금니가
조금씩 깨어져 나가고 있음.
이 놈을 치료했던 게 아마 2000년 경?
8~9년 썼으면 잘 쓴건가?

거참 신경쓰이네.
한국에 돌아갈 때까지 잘 견뎌주면 좋겠는데.
딱딱한 거 먹지 말아야지.

이기태 부회장·황창규 사장… 삼성, 16일 대규모 인사

삼성전자의 상징적 존재였던 '애니콜신화'의 이기태 부회장과 '황의 법칙'을 이끌었던 황창규 사장이 물러날 전망이다.

15일 업계에 따르면 삼성전자의 이기태 대외협력 부회장과 황창규 기술총괄사장이 16일 삼성그룹 인사에서 고문으로 물러나는 방안이 유력시되고 있다. 인사가 단행될 경우 두 사람은 특별한 업무를 맡지 않는다는 점에서 사실상 퇴진으로 받아들여진다.

이 부회장과 황 사장은 한때 삼성전자의 주축인 휴대폰과 반도체 사업을 총괄하며 삼성전자를 이끌었던 인물들. 이 부회장은 기술 위주의 프리미엄 휴대폰 개발을 주도하며 해외에서 '애니콜' 휴대폰 브랜드를 프리미엄 브랜드로 각인시킨 '애니콜 신화'의 주인공이다. 황 사장은 "매년 반도체의 저장 용량이 2배로 늘어난다"는 '황의 법칙'을 발표해 반도체 업계에서 유명하다. 따라서 두 사람의 퇴진은 삼성전자 경영진의 새로운 세대 교체를 의미한다.

더불어 박종우 디지털미디어 총괄사장, 권오현 반도체총괄사장, 이상완 LCD총괄사장의 이동도 예상된다. 해당 사업부문들이 부품과 세트 등 2개의 사업부문에 흡수 통합되는 대폭의 조직 개편이 있기 때문이다. 박 사장은 북미총괄 사장 발령, 권 사장과 이 사장은 다른 업무를 맡게 될 것이라는 관측이다. 부품과 세트사업부문은 이윤우 부회장과 최지성 정보통신 총괄 사장이 부회장으로 승진해 각각 맡게 된다.

따라서 삼성전자는 앞으로 이윤우 부회장과 최 사장 투 톱 체제로 운영될 전망이다.

한편, 삼성은 고령의 최고경영자(CEO)를 중심으로 계열사 사장단을 교체하고 전체 임원 1,600여명 가운데 상당수를 바꾸는 그룹 인사를 검토 중이다. 삼성은 인사가 끝나는 대로 조직개편과 연봉 조정 등 올해 경영계획을 이달 중 마무리할 예정이다.

물론, 실무적인 입장에서 보면,
변화의 바람은 훨씬 더 크게 다가올 것이고.
이 외에도 이 투 톱 체제를 위한 내부적인 변화는 훨씬 클 듯.
이 부회장님한테는 눈물 쏙 빼도록 혼도 많이 났지만
배운 것도 많아서 눈물 초큼 나기도.

이런 상황에 나는 유유자적. 좋은 건지 나쁜 건지.
어차피 돌아갈 즈음엔 완전히 다 바뀌어 있을 듯. 쩝.
아마 서울에 있었다면 초 긴장이었겠지만,
이역만리에서는 그저 전화선 너머의 상황이로구나.
상황 안 좋으면, 서울로 호출령이 떨어질지도(설마).

난생 처음 석류를 사 본 촌 놈.
속내를 궁금해하며 배를 갈랐더니
툭하며 터지는 선홍색 핏물에
온 방안이 핏물 천지가 되었다.

그래도 맛은 달더라.

귀를 기울여보면

매 시각, 아련히 종소리가 들려온다.
아마도 바로 지척에 있는 성당이 그 진원지가 아닐까.
가만히 듣고 있다보면, 꽤 평화롭다.
그 소리를 듣고 있도록 혼자 퍼져있다는 것 빼곤.

게우고 다시 삼키고

노래가 부르고 싶은데 그것이 마땅치않아
예전에 불렀던 노래를 다시 듣는 것으로 대신하고 있습니다.
대단하지요, 이 과잉 자의식이란.

2년 정도 천리안 계정이 중단 상태여서
예전의 게시판들이 접속 불가 상태였는데
갑자기 예전의 끄적거림들과 소리들이 듣고 싶어
다시 돈을 내고 게시판을 살렸습니다.
또 끊어지기 전에 파일 백업을 해야겠어요.

예전에 쏟아내었던 소리들을 다시 듣고 있노라니...
뭔가 Overly 이입된 것들이 다시금 어색하기도 하고,
그것들이 술먹고 주정 후에 쏟아낸 토사물 같기도 하고,
다시 그것을 주워듣고 있는 스스로가
게워진 토사물들을 다시 집어 삼키고 있는 것도 같고,
엇, 그러고보면 닭둘기와 별반 다를 것 없는 스스로 같기도 하고.

뭐 이런 저런 우스운 생각들이 많이 듭니다.

그 중의 하나를 걸어볼까요.

익숙해지기

지금 묵고 있는 숙소의 승강기 버튼은
제대로 누르지 않으면 먹통인 경우가 많은데,

그 버튼의 동작점을 오차없이 짚어내기까지
얼마의 시간이 걸렸는지. 사실 그리 오래지 않았다.

그렇게 금방 익숙해진다.

잠수 모드

요즘 호텔방에 잠수.

미국 다녀온 후, 피곤한 것도 있었지만.
이게 서울인지 런던인지 별 차이도 없을 정도로,
그냥 잠수. 가끔 장 보러, 담배 태우러 밖에 나가고.
날이 추워 커튼을 겹겹이 닫아 두니,
방 안에 있을 때는 낮인지, 밤인지 구분도 안 가고.
House keeping도 갑갑할 듯.
인간이 도대체 방 밖으로 안 나가니 청소할 틈 없어서.

아무도 읽지 않는 보고서도 써야 하고,
RFP를 기다리는 대학교수에게 미안키도 하고.
어차피 나와는 크게 상관없었을 프로젝트도 조금은 신경쓰이고.
담달부터 움직일 준비도 계속 해야하고.
서울에선 전세 빼겠다고 새벽에 전화오고.
6개월 자리비운 사이,
나의 향후 거취를 놓고 마음껏들 논해주시는데.

요 며칠은 이 모든 것이 그저 귀찮을 따름.
지금껏 나름 열심히 지냈으니까..
잠깐은 귀찮아해도 될 듯.

끼니

매일 같은 재료로 좀 덜 지루한 음식들을 해먹어야하는 상황에 처하다보니, 창의력도 점차 고갈되어 가는 상황. 어쨌건, 냉장고에 구비해두면 뭐라도 해먹게 되는 음식재료들을 발견하고 있으니.. 향후 제 자취생활(하게 된다면)에 도움이 될 수 있도록 적어두려 합니다.

1. 기본 양념류
올리브유(마늘이나 고추 썰어 넣어두면 훌륭), 후추, 소금, 간장, 마늘, 고추 정도. 칠리소스나 핫소스..도 있으면 요긴하게 사용. Spice를 많이 쓰게 되면, 소금은 놀랄만큼 안 쓰게 되기도 하더군요.

2. 야채
토마토, 양파, 호박, 가지, 콩나물, 버섯, 파프리카, 완두콩 등. 당근은 생으로 먹으면 좋은데, 요리에 넣긴 좀.

3. 곡류
쌀과 면 (칼국수의 다양한 베리에이션에 놀라고 있는 중)

4. 그리고
새우, 생선필렛, 계란 등등

최근 꽂힌 재료는 역시 토마토. 끼니마다 토마토 2개로 올리브 오일에 마늘과 볶아 퓨레처럼 만들고, 여기에 몇 가지 야채나 해산물을 넣어 먹고 있는데.. 맛도 좋고 몸에도 좋고. TㅅTb

생활여행자

생활여행자.라는 책을 오늘 서울에서 공수받았습니다. 많이 읽고 싶었던 책인데, 기대가 됩니다.

잠만 자라는 라스베가스 호텔

일단, 라스베가스 호텔에 놀란 것은 카지노와 기념품 샵들이 쇼핑몰처럼 빼곡하다는 것. 그리고 하나 하나의 규모가 크다는 것. 마지막으로 호텔 객식의 설비가 최소한 이라는 것. 물론, 이것은 내가 묵고 있는 숙소에 한한 것이지만. 그 흔한, 커피포트조차 없고 뭔가 최소한의 음식 가공을 할 만한 시설이 전무. 방에선 잠만 자고, 나머지는 방밖에서 해결하라는 의도. 예전에 라스베가스는 카지노에서 수익을 벌기 때문에 객실 요금은 오히려 비교적 저렴하다는 말을 들은 적이 있는 것 같은데, 같은 맥락일지도 모른다는 생각을 함. 하지만 난 카지노에는 별 관심이 없는데. 경험삼아 한 번 땡겨봐야 하나.

City of pleasure

라스베가스는 그런 느낌이 드네요. 아직은 사람사는 곳이란 느낌이 안 드는 데, 아마도 그런 곳만 보고다니니 그렇겠죠. 분명한 건, 보다 자세히 알게 되기 전에 떠나게 될 터이니, 제 기억 속의 라스베가스는 그런 이미지로 꽤 오래도록 남아 있게 될 듯 합니다.

CES는 확실히 큰 행사이긴 합니다. 글쎄요, 신기술, 신제품 전시보다는 이미 알고 있는 것들 실물을 확인하는 정도?의 전시인데, 내일은 Tech zone에 가서 못 보던게 있는지 좀 봐야겠네요. 키노트와 패널 디스커션 위주로 보고 있는데, 확실히 전시보다는 남는게 많은 것 같습니다. 오프닝 키노트에서 가장 강렬했던 주제는 "경기 불황을 이겨내고 팍스 아메리카나를 CE산업으로 다시 한 번 일궈보자" 뭐 이런 정도가 아닐까 싶네요.. 오늘 느낌으론 앞으로 CES는 굳이 안 봐도 되겠다 싶어요 ;-P

CES보러 라스베가스 갑니다. 공항에서 지연 중인 항공기 보딩 기다리는 중. 배그프고 졸리네요.

아, 정말..
남들이 저보고 애플 빠돌이라고 할 때는
"그렇지 않아!"라고 (소심하게) 반박하곤 했는데,
오늘 느꼈습니다. 스티브 잡스 빠돌이 맞나봅니다. TT

이 아저씨, 건강이 안 좋잖아요?
내일부터(오늘부턴가) 샌프란시스코에서 맥월드 시작인데,
예산이 안 되어서 가려다가 못 갔지만,
올해 처음으로 키노트를 후임자에게 넘겨준다 했죠.
그리고 본인은 건강 치료 중이라고
이렇게 애플 사이트에 편지를 남겼군요.

남의 회사 CEO보면서 이렇게 쾌유를 기원해보긴 또 처음입니다.
부디, 건강해져서.. 그 경이로운 비즈니스 능력과
완성도 높은 제품을 계속 만들어주길 바라게 되네요.

이런 말 하면 (또) 욕 먹겠지만..
가끔은 이런 사람과 같은 시대를 살면서
신화적인 비즈니스 사례들을 실시간으로 목도한다는 사실이
굉장히 뿌듯할 때도 있습니다.

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I’m getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause—a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I’ve said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

미쓰 홍당무

공효진과 박찬욱이라는 이름에 끌려서 보게 된 영화입니다. 이경미 감독, 박찬욱 제작이라네요.

흥미로운 시작과 당황스런 전개에, 몰입감 넘치는 절정으로 치닫다가 뭔가 정체를 알 수 없는 약간의 감동과 민망함과 연민 등등..이 뒤섞인 대단원으로 이어지는 이 영화는, 그래도 재미있는 영화입니다.

평을 봤더니 대부분, 매력적인 캐릭터에 반해 전체적인 얼개는 다소 느슨..이라는 말들을 많이 하더군요. 모든 캐릭터들이 다들 생생하게 살아있는 것은 사실인 것 같습니다. 서종철이 다소 약했지만(워낙 캐릭터 자체가 그런 캐릭터이니까요), 양미숙 선생이나 서종희. 특히 서종희(서종철 딸)의 무게감은 어린 학생임에도 대단했습니다. 오히려 극중에서 가장 영웅적인 캐릭터라고 할까요. 어리버리 캔디 캐릭터 이유리 역시.. 저는 좋았습니다. 혹자들은 짜증스러운 캐릭터라 할 지 모르겠지만, 나름 감정 이입이 되는 부분 - 못 믿으시겠지만 - 있달까요. 그리고 상대적으로 짧은 시간 연기하지만 그 위압감이 대단한 방은진씨.

평소에 공효진(양미숙 역)을 좋아하는데요, 특유의 털털한 이미지와 패셔니스타로서의 면모(제 기억에는 약간 샤를로트 갱스부르..와 같은 이미지로 박혀있습니다)가 늘 cool한 모습이었는데, 역시 망가지면 확 망가지는군요. 좋습니다, 이 언니.

"난 내가 창피해!"

마지막에 양미숙 '선생'이 서종희 '학생'과 함께 있을 때 내지르는 대사입니다. 이 순간, 잠깐 눈물 흘렸습니다. 기억해보면, 저 역시 늘 스스로가 창피한 적이 많았던 것 같고, 그 창피함을 노출시키기가 죽기보다 싫었고(물론, 정말 죽으라면 말은 달라지겠지만), 어렸을 때에는 그러한 창피함을 제거할 수 있는, 무마할 수 있는, 포장할 수 있는.. 방향으로 살아오려고 했던 것 같습니다. 그래서 때로는 극단적인 자기 방어..가 지나친 자기애로 비추이기도 했던 것 같구요.

"난 니가 안 창피해!"

학생 주제에 선생 따귀도 때리고 반말도 찍찍해대는 이 싸가지없는 서종희 학생이 내뱉는 이 말. 가슴이 다 후련해집니다. 그리고 카메라는 로우 앵글로 서종희 학생과 양미숙 선생의 얼굴을 올려 잡는데, 그 오똑한 콧날에 가슴이 뭉클..해지는 것은 저만이 아니었을 겁니다. 그 이쁜 학생. 이름이 '서우'라네요. 기억해야죠 --;

질문 - Mobile friendly blog 만들기

혹시 누가 아시는지 모르겠습니다.

지금 저는 Blogger/Blogspot을 쓰고 있는데, 1) 블로그 로딩 시 Browser를 detect하여 2) Mobile version으로 3) 자동 리다이렉션해줄 수 있는 방법이 있을까요.

구글링을 해보니 대략의 솔루션은,

1. RSS를 이용해 text version으로 feeding한다. 또는 MoFuse라는 서비스를 이용해 XXXX.mofuse.mobi라는 별도의 도메인을 공짜로 하나 얻고, mobile 버전으로 컨버팅을 한다.
2. m.XXXXX 으로 시작하는 서브 도메인을 하나 얻는다.(e.g. m.jjunh.com)
3. 모바일에서는 2번과 같이 별도 도메인으로 연결한다...

인 것 같습니다만, 저는 별도 도메인명을 생성/배포하기도 싫고, RSS처럼 한 번 읽으면 사라져버리는(이건 구글리더 설정에서 변경가능할 것 같아 보이기도 하지만) 것도 싫은 것이 문제라는 것이지요.

Wordpress의 경우 별도 Plugin을 배포하기도 하고, MoFuse같은 경우 Auto redirection 서비스를 갖고 있어 헤더나 Index.html에 PHP 코드를 붙여놓아 브라우저 디텍팅하여 모바일 버전으로 자동 돌려주기도 합니다만, Blogger의 경우는 이것도 지원하지 않지요 (글구 보니 Blogger 별로구나 TT).

우선은 Beta라고 이름붙여 페이지 상단 블로그 제목 아래에 조그많게 텍스트버전을 달아놓았으니, 혹시 모바일 기기로 접속하시는 분들은 그 링크를 타고 들어가시면 데이터 요금 좀 절약하실 수도 있을지 모르겠지만, 용변보고 뒤를 안 닦은 것 처럼 찝찔..합니다. 아름답고 스마트하게 자동으로 알아서 좀 해주면 좋겠는데요.
